Reviews
- A song that fitted James Carr like
a glove, here he is in full possession and control of the lyrics as well as
his own vocal mastery, and the phrasing is unashmedely southern and mannered.
A song like this would probably, twenty years earlier, have been rendered as
a blues, but the progressive emancipation of black American music puts this
into the emergent field of Deep Soul, in which troubles and misfortune could
be rendered with deep emotion and, on occasion, with righteous anger
simmering just below the surface. (From the Complete Goldwax Singles liner
